Working with the Redfern All Blacks R.L.F.C.

The Drawable team are currently working the Redfern All Blacks and Leichhardt Council to improve traffic flow throughout the Leichhardt precinct for the annual NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout Competition.

The Knockout started in 1971, and since that time it has grown to a full three day carnival with more than 60 teams competing annually over the long weekend in October.

Samuel, Connie and Love Your Sister

After seeing Connie and Samuel’s story on “The Project” one day, a nerve in Dave Starr was instantly touched and he decided that we had to help out.

The first event was held in our old art gallery (now closed). The event was a combination of art and music featuring Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Rick Grossman (Hoodoo Gurus) and Andy Newman (Chris Masuak and the KN40, The Soul Movers) with the night sponsored by Hungerford Hill Wines. We raised $10,000.

After Dave’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer (L had treatment and is fine) the bar got lifted. We called in every single favour we could muster, and with an awesome organising committee and support of The Erskineville Hotel, another fundraiser was on the cards. Despite horrible weather destroying our outdoor market, everyone rallied together and made it a great day.

With Samuel and Connie hosting, we raised another $36,000. Every cent went to Love Your Sister and the Garvan Research Institute.
