We create data & electrical services drawings for the Shark Dive at Sydney Aquarium

We’re all animal lovers here at Castle Drawable. In our home lives each staff member is a devoted ‘fur parent’, and BIM manager Cam boasts a veritable menagerie of dogs, horses and chooks on his semi-rural property. But we sometimes find ourselves taking a walk on the wild side with our trade drafting and design work, too.

Just this week, electrical services plans for the new Shark Dive experience at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour landed on our desks. While we won’t be donning scuba gear to frolic with three-metre underwater man eaters, we will be generating immaculate as built drawings for the lighting, power and data cabling installed at this, well, terrifying attraction by our marine-specialist customers, Litemaster Electrical.

Equally exciting but rather higher on the cuteness scale is the Taronga Wildlife Retreat, another creature-centric development we will be doing the drafting work for, this time for Pro Electrical. This project marks Phase 1 of Taronga Zoo’s $114.8 million upgrade, and comprises a series of accommodation ‘pods’, a guest lodge and dining facilities all set amid a beautifully landscaped habitat for native Aussie critters such as wallabies, koalas, roos, bandicoots and echidnas. Pro has been contracted to install the power, data cabling and lighting in this “immersive conservation experience” and Drawable will be drafting the shop drawings, for construction plans and as builts.

This is by no means our first encounter with Taronga Zoo, though. Way back in 2008 we produced the electrical as builts for the chimpanzee enclosure and the condor aviary at this eminent Sydney institution, while just last year Elam hired us to draft the data as builts for the Taronga Institute of Science & Learning – a conservation science “living laboratory” in the zoo’s grounds that will host students from preschool tykes to PhD super-boffins, due to open mid-year.

While most of the plans a Drawable draftsman works on cater mainly for humans, we believe all creatures great and small can benefit from our AutoCAD and Revit skills. So if you’ve just won a contract to install the electrical, data and comms, HVAC or security and fire systems for an aquarium, zoo or any other out-there project, give us a call. We’re wild about drafting.
